Holy Week At First UMC

Come, remember, observe, and participate in the retelling of the story of our Lord’s passion and death. Celebrate anew God’s ever-present saving power though the cross and resurrection within these unified sequential services of Scripture, music, liturgy, observance of The Last Supper, prayer  in the garden of Gethsemane, watching and waiting as Christ approaches and bears the cross, and finally His resurrection on Easter.

Palm Sunday, April 9, 11:00 AM: remember Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem with shouts and singing of Hosannas as our children present a Palm Procession. You also will hear music from our Youth Choir as well as celebrating as our Confirmands are confirmed into membership.

Maundy Thursday Service of Worship, April 13, 7:00 PM: observe Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples by partaking in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Good Friday Tenebrae Service, April 14, 7:00 PM: our Chancel and Youth Choirs will lead us through Jesus final hours on earth as He is deserted, forsaken, betrayed, mocked, denied, tortured, and crucified.

Easter, April 16, 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM: celebrate Jesus’ resurrection through praise, prayer, liturgy, proclamation of the Word, and music by our Handbell and Chancel Choirs. He Is Risen!  Remember to bring freshly cut flowers to place on the cross outside the entrance of the sanctuary.

We invite you to experience these services not as each an independent entity, but as a continually unfolding unified drama of our salvation, and plan to participate in each one.

In addition to these special services of worship, please plan to participate in the Community Holy Week Lunches sponsored by the Bainbridge Ministerial Association. The time, cost, and locations are listed on the front of the newsletter.
